Nate’s Notes: Actions Don’t Define. They Design

I’ve been reflecting lately on something that is important for all of us to hear and believe:

You are not what you’ve done.

That might sound like a strange thing to say, especially when we’re constantly being told to take action, build better habits, pursue consistency, and do the work. All of that matters. But I want to draw a bold line between your identity and your behavior.

What you do shapes your outcomes. It builds your life’s structure.
But what you do is not who you are.

Your actions don’t define you. They design the life you’re living.
That means your behaviors and choices are important—but they are not your identity.

Here’s what’s true:

  • You are not the mistakes you’ve made.
  • You are not your past.
  • You are not defined by failure.

You are defined by the One who made you. And He calls you His.

You are a child of God. Adopted. Loved. Redeemed. Forgiven. Chosen. Equipped. Sent. Called.

When you live from that truth, everything changes. You’re no longer striving to earn your worth, you’re building from a place of knowing your worth. That’s when real transformation happens.

So this week, let go of the weight of shame. Stop letting your past decisions write your future story. Let God define you. And start living like that definition is true.

Nate’s Quotes:

“You are not a product of your worst decisions, you are a masterpiece in progress.”
— Nate Jensen

It may seem a bit odd to quote myself, but this is one I've been thinking about for quite some time, and I know someone needs to hear it.

Too many people stay stuck because they’ve bought into the lie that their past defines them. That their biggest mistake is their identity. That they’ve gone too far or waited too long.

But that’s not how God works. He doesn’t discard people because of brokenness, He restores them.

That doesn’t mean our choices don’t matter. They do. They’ve shaped the life you’re living today. But they don’t have the power to define you unless you hand them that power.

Here’s what I want you to remember:

  • God knows everything about you and still chooses you.
  • You are allowed to grow beyond the version of yourself that made past decisions.
  • You’re not a lost cause, you’re a living, breathing, work in progress.

Let grace define you. Let discipline redesign your life.

Transformation Starts with Truth

Let’s get practical here. If you’re trying to change your life but you still believe deep down that you’re “not good enough” or “too far gone,” you will sabotage your progress.

That’s why transformation is spiritual at its core.

You have to start with truth. Not the truth of your feelings. Not the truth of your circumstances. The truth of God’s Word.

You can’t build a new life while clinging to a broken identity. You can’t walk in purpose while believing you’re a mistake.

But here’s the good news:

  • When you believe you are loved, you start making loving decisions.
  • When you believe you are called, you start moving with purpose.
  • When you believe you are redeemed, you stop living like you’re still condemned.

The secret to lasting transformation is this: Let God define you. Then build a life that reflects it.

That’s how you expand your thinking, deepen your relationships, clear your emotions, and walk in alignment. It’s not self-help, it’s spirit-led life transformation.

Scripture Reflection

“But to all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.”
— John 1:12 (ESV)

You’re not trying to become good enough for God, you’ve already been given the right to be His child.

You don’t earn that identity. You accept it. You believe it. And then you live like it’s true.

If you’ve been walking in guilt, shame, or self-doubt, lay it down this week. Receive the identity He’s already spoken over you and walk forward in grace, strength, and purpose.

This Is Not the End of Your Story

Where you’ve been is not where you’re going. The mistakes you’ve made do not cancel your purpose.

This is not the end of your story.

You are being transformed.
Your life is expanding.
Your heart is opening.
Your mind is renewing.
Your path is being rerouted back to the purpose God always had for you.

And the best part? You’re not doing it alone.

You’ve got a God who never gives up on you.
You’ve got people around you who care about you.
And you’ve got a new opportunity today to live, think, and act like someone who knows exactly who they are.

Let’s keep building. Keep growing. Keep becoming.
One step at a time. One truth at a time. One act of grace at a time.
